Make sweethearts happy and homes brighter with red carnations
OXFORD – The 15th annual Chenango County Habitat for Humanity’s Red Carnation Sale is going on now through January 25th. The sale raises funds to support Chenango County Habitat’s current project, a house being built at 7 Mill Street in Greene, and future projects. If you don’t have a volunteer in your area, orders for red carnations can be taken by Sandra Colton at 334-7492.
Red carnation prices are $10/half dozen; and $15/dozen. Distributions and pick-ups will be on Saturday, Feb. 7 and Wednesday, Feb. 11 – just in time for Valentine’s Day bouquets for sweethearts.
The current housing project in Greene is being constructed with the family of Larry and Christine Dunlap. Chris stays at home and takes care of the kids, who both have special needs, due to autism. Larry supports his family by working for the Pepsi Company. They have always wanted to own their own home, but each year unfortunate circumstances have gotten in their way. Chenango Habitat partnered with the Dunlap family who has to invest 350 hours of “sweat equity.” It is the policy of Habitat to have partnering families, actively involved in various aspects of the construction, fund raising, and related areas.
