There’s No Place Like Home

For Samuel Reuben, words were like pebbles in a colorful and carefully assembled rock collection, with an occasional semi-precious stone or diamond tossed in.

My dear Shelly:
Well now that Passover has gone by, we can reset our sights on the future which will soon be the present and the present will soon be the past.
For after all, the true pleasures of home are not outside but within our hearts…
Michael had his exhibits in “FOCUS ON THE ARTS” of his photography. It was quite well attended . People from everywhere came to visit the exposition at the Highland Park High School . He was very proud to show people around. Chucky is very good at playing the clarinet and he is improving constantly.

In the first place, the succession of seasons multiplies every home. How different is the view from our window as we look on the tender green of spring, the rich foliage of summer, the glorious tints of autumn or the delicate coldness of winter.
---
There is an old English song called “There’s no place like home.”
It may well be doubted which is more delightful - to start for traveling on a holiday or to return home from one which has been thoroughly enjoyed. We may indeed secure for ourselves an endless variety of scenic thoughts without leaving our own firesides.
---
The wise man’s eyes are in his head. But the fool walks in darkness.
---
The true student, in Ruskin’s words, “Stands on the heights from which he looks back on the complex universe of God the creator of all life, and forward over the generations of men.”
The most important secrets of nature are often hidden away in the most unexpected places.
“No pleasure is comparable to the standing upon the vantage ground of truth.”
Herein lies the importance of education. I say education rather than instruction, because it is far more important to cultivate the mind than to store up the memory.
And what is written is written. Would that it were worthier.

Dad & Mom

My dear Shelly.
I read here in the newspapers that a blanket of smog is lying down over metropolitan New York City. It looks like Chucky escaped in the nick of time. Nevertheless, thanks very much for showing him a good time. He talks about the places he’s been to, and what he’s seen. It may be necessary for you to abandon that big city before things get out of hand. Well if you come back, we’ll consider replacing our television set with one that works.
Michael has a job here in Ravinia on Roger Williams Avenue with Standard Service Station. He fills the tanks of cars with gasoline. and checks the battery and water. Takes the credit card, punches it, gives green stamps, and passes the time of day with the motorists. He’s quite some person…
I have together with another man made application for a design patent for what we call a “PORTHOLE MIRROR STAND.” I have designed the “Porthole Mirror” and he has designed the “stand.” We put them together and there you have it. He is a wood trimmer and has a factory with a few employees on West Lake Street in Chicago.
Let us hear from you. How are you feeling? Write us a letter. Best of everything and Love,
From Dad, Mother and Michael
