Five injured in Coventry crash expected to make full recoveries
COVENTRY– Five people who were injured in a two-car accident in the Town of Coventry Wednesday are expected to make full recoveries; some have already been released from the hospital.
The accident took place at around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday night at the intersection of County Route 27 and State Highway 41.
A minivan operated by Cherif Diallo, 21, of New York City, was traveling south along Rt. 27 and failed to stop at the intersection, sliding into the path of a car traveling west on St. Hwy. 41, operated by Lindsay Mccandless, 25, of Greene.
The minivan was struck from the side and was sent rolling from the roadway into a nearby ditch and ejected one of its four occupants from the wreck.
“All the victims in the incident are stable and expected to recover from their injuries, including the passenger who was ejected from the collision as the vehicle they were in overturned,” said Chenango County Bureau of Fire Coordinator Matthew L. Beckwith.
“We attempted to call in the medi-vac helicopter for aid, but due to the weather conditions at the time of the incident it was not an option. There were five ambulances at the scene and crews rushed the victims to Wilson Memorial Hospital. None of those injured turned out to have life-threatening injuries,” said Beckwith.
The operators of both vehicles and three passengers in the minivan were taken to Wilson.
He said the extent of the injuries involved broken bones and concussions.
The Coventry, Bainbridge Fire Departments along with Cooperstown Medical Transport responded to the scene.
