Sherburne holds first ambulance committee meeting
SHERBURNE – The Village of Sherburne took a step toward finding a solution to its ambulance coverage issue Tuesday night in the first in a series of committee meetings.
An 11-member committee, with members from the Village Board, the Sherburne Town Board, the Sherburne Fire Department and community residents, met Tuesday to discuss the possible solutions to the ambulance issue.
The village has discussed making the transition from a volunteer ambulance service to a revenue recovery system, which would allow them to bill for service; however, there has been a lot of discussion about the best way to proceed. The village has been debating whether to go with the revenue recovery system as a municipal-based ambulance service or as a separate not-for-profit service.
“We want to get as much information as possible to make an educated decision,” said Village Mayor William Acee. Information will be gathered about the calls the Sherburne Fire Department responds to as well as from municipalities which have made the switch to a revenue recovery system.
The committee is expected to hold at least two more meetings before a recommendation is brought before the Village Board. The next committee meeting will be held next week.
