McDonough Library receives gift for large print books

McDONOUGH – The McDonough Branch Library has received a $500 donation from Jim and Marilyn Palik of Paris, France. According to Oxford Memorial Library Director Nancy Wilcox, the donation will be used toward the purchase of large-print books.
“Jim and Marilyn owned a camp at Genegantslet Lake and maintain an interest in our community even though they are now living in France,” explained Wilcox. “This was a very unexpected but welcomed Christmas gift for the McDonough Branch Library.”
According to the library director, the library has already received several new large print books thanks to the donation and additional books have been ordered.
The McDonough branch of the Oxford Memorial Library is adding new items on a continual basis, said Wilcox, which enhances the collection of both libraries. Recent additions include new audio-visual materials such as videos which circulate for one week and books on audiocassette or CD which circulate for three weeks.
“If you visited the library during the summer and early fall, it is time to stop in again and see all that has been added,” said Wilcox.
The McDonough Library and Calvary Community Center is housed in what was once the Calvary Episcopal Church at 115 County Road 7 in McDonough. The facility opened last fall after an extensive renovation of the historic structure, spearheaded by the McDonough Improvement Committee.
Library hours are 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
