NHS cast of “Oliver” sponsors Valentine’s Dance
NORWICH – The Norwich High School Musical Club sponsors its eighth annual Community Valentine’s Dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, February 14 in the school’s cafeteria.
Music will be furnished by the band, “First Class” featuring district teachers Matt Maholchic and Mark Sands joined by Bill Pomares and Paul Greenberg. The group plays a wide variety of music, including: 50’s and 60’s Rock and Roll, Country, Disco, Big Band, Swing and Ballroom dance styles. Between sets, DJ Steve Samsonik of Sunshower Productions will spin tunes.
Attendance at last year’s dance set a record. “The entire community is welcome. It's a great time for the family and I hope everyone will respond as they did last year,” said Sands, who serves as the musical club’s advisor and stage director.
Proceeds raised from the dance help to defray some of the costs of this year’s spring musical, “Oliver.” The money specifically helps afford professional musicians in the pit orchestra as well as other needed necessities that arise.
“The school district is very generous with the money they allot for our shows, but it doesn’t pick up everything,” said Sands.
Tickets may be purchased from the NHS cast of “Oliver” or at the door. Family discounts are available. There will be raffles for prizes and refreshments. For more information, contact Sands at 334-1600 ext. 1163.
