Greene ends B-GA’s three-year MAC tourney reign

SIDNEY – Greene ended B-G/Afton’s three-year championship run as Midstate Athletic Conference champion, and earned a bit of redemption in the process Saturday.
One-point losers to the Bears in last month’s dual meet nail-biter, the Trojans put seven wrestlers in the finals, won three titles, and outpolled the runner-up Bears, 192.5-175. No other team in the league was within 70 points of B-G/A.
Unadilla Valley placed fifth, while undermanned Oxford was last out of 10 teams.
Brock Kiddy (103), Nick Wilcox (125), and Tyler Beckwith (189) won titles for Greene, who are among the top contenders at next weekend’s Class C team tournament. Overall, 12 Trojans placed among the top four in their weight class.
B-GA didn’t have the same depth across the board as the Trojans, but did have the overall edge in champions. Wayne Cirigliano (112), Danny Gormley (119), Daren Terpstra (140), and Victor Coronado (152) all took home championships. Cirigliano, Gormley, and Coronado are also bidding for returns to the New York State tournament at the Times Arena in Albany.
Tyler Peet (135), a state tournament qualifier last year, gave Unadilla Valley its lone title.
Below are team scores and results of local grapplers who placed in the top four in their weight class.
Team scores: Greene 192.5, Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton 175, Walton 104.5, Delhi 70, Unadilla Valley 61, Harpursville 52, Deposit-Hancock 51, Unatego 48, Sidney 42, Oxford 37.
