Greene plays state opponent that has familiar look to it
By Greene head coach Dave Gorton’s best approximation, his team’s state regional playoff opponent Saturday is not that dissimilar to the club his Trojans beat for the Section IV title last weekend.
Greene (22-1), the number six ranked Class C school in New York, plays number eight Bishop Grimes Saturday at 2:45 p.m. at SUNY Cortland.
The Trojans advanced with a comfortable 15-point victory over Odessa-Montour behind a career-high 29 points from senior Barb Borst.
The Cobras defeated state-ranked Mohawk for the Section III Class C-2 title, then upended Little Falls last Saturday, 42-32, in the Section III crossover championship.
“They have an inside-outside attack,” Gorton said, who cribbed notes on the Cobras from reliable sources who have seen Grimes play. “There are three guards who like to shoot the three, and they have a post player who averages in double figures. In some ways they are a lot like Odessa-Montour, but it’s still hard to compare.”
