Colgate Chamber Players perform for Monday Evening Musical Club
NORWICH – The Monday Evening Musical Club of Norwich presents the Colgate Chamber Players on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, 11 West Main Street.
The Chamber Players, now in their 20th season under the leadership of Professor Laura Klugherz, are a select group of advanced players representing man disciplines across the Colgate University campus. Chenango Players alums have gone on to pursue advanced degrees in music, and they have also become Hollywood composers, doctors, lawyers, traders, graphic artists and designers, and educators. The Chamber Players have participated in tours of New York City and Mexico, and a special musical retreat in Chile. In January 2005 several of the Chamber Players participated in a concert tour of central Mexico as part of a Core Mexico extended study trip.
Selected Chamber Players have been interns at the Chenango Summer MusicFest, learning intensive chamber music rehearsal skills, festival organization, public relations, and time management. Monday evening’s performance is entitled “Remembrances” and includes works by Spohr, Boismortier, Schubert, Kodaly, and Mendelssohn. Different combinations of string instruments will combine to form five ensembles. Director and Colgate professor, Laura Klugherz is an internationally respected violinist/violist and brings to Norwich a uniquely gifted group of musicians.
