Woodford sets new MAC record
WALTON – Oxford sophomore Emily Woodford set a new Midstate Athletic Conference record Wednesday afternoon in a tri-meet with B-G/Afton and Walton.
Woodford, whose sister Katie was Section IV state qualifier last year in the 400 meters who placed sixth in the small school state meet, blazed a speedy path in the 200-meter dash. She broke a three-year league record set by Oxford graduate Justine Brown in 2006 (25.6) timing 25.2 seconds.
Conditions for the record certainly were not optimum, said Oxford head coach Irene DeJager. “It was 35 degrees and snowing,” DeJager said. “I am wondering what warm weather and additional training will bring for this young lady. She is only a 10th-grader and is producing beautiful performances this early in the season.”
