Coventry brings back road rally for Spring Fling
COVENTRY – The Coventry Events Committee is gearing up for their second annual Spring Fling and this year, they’ve added something a little more interesting to turn the community focused event into a full day affair.
According to Events Committee Chair Doug Besemer, this year’s Spring Fling will kick off this Saturday with a road rally which will take participants on a 3 1/2 hour tour of Coventry and Chenango County. The event is not a race, but a timed test of driving skills and local knowledge.
“You don’t get specific directions, you get clues,” Besemer explained, so each car will need a navigator. He’s gotten a sneak peek, the event coordinator said, and wishes he himself could join in the fun.
“We’ve had quite a few people show interest,” Besemer reported, who estimated it has been 30 to 40 years since something similar has been held in the area. Registration for the rally will start at 9 a.m. at the Coventry Firehouse. Each car will be required to pay a $20 entry fee, and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.
