Saturday marks Village of Oxford’s Arbor Day celebration

OXFORD – The Oxford Village Tree Board is presenting its annual Arbor Day Celebration at 9 a.m. on Saturday in the LaFayette Park band shell. There will be an award presentation with Oxford’s Mayor and a tree give-away as part of “Tree City USA” and the Arbor Day Celebration.

At 9 a.m., there will be an awards and flag presentation with the Oxford Village Tree Board; the honorable Oxford Village Mayor Terry M. Stark; and the DEC Senior Forester of Sherburne, Greg Owens. Following that, hundreds of Douglas fir and Norway spruce evergreen seedling trees – wrapped by Oxford Academy High School volunteers – will be given away by Tree Board members as part of “Tree City USA” and the Arbor Day Celebration. Because trees often go fast, those wishing to receive a tree should arrive early.

In addition, expert tree advice will be offered by Board Member and Agriculture Instructor Dale Johnson.
