Oxford Library breaks ground on new addition

OXFORD – The Oxford Memorial Library will break ground tomorrow at 10 a.m. on its new Community Room addition.
The construction is part of the third phase of the library’s four-phase capital improvement project. Phases one and two, which involved renovations of the young adult room and the construction of an addition containing a new reading room and staff room, have already been completed.
NYS Senator Thomas Libous and a representative from Assemblyman Clifford Crouch’s office will be on hand for the ground breaking ceremony, as will Four County Library System Director David Karre.
According to library staff member Nancy Morey, Libous was instrumental in securing $75,000 for the project, which covered the costs of the architect’s plans and drawings, excavation and basement. The library also received a NYS Library Construction Grant for $209,620 for construction, she said.
“The remainder of the funding has come from private donations, a Challenge Grant from the Golub Foundation, NBT Bank, and others,” Morey said.
Light refreshments will be served following the ground breaking ceremony.
