NORWICH – Norwich dropped a pair of decisions Friday and Saturday to Oneonta and Seton Catholic Central to remain winless on the season.
Friday, Norwich was unable to hold its early lead as Oneonta mounted its comeback with a five-run fifth against a worn-down Tornado bullpen.
Nate Eastman highlighted the Oneonta fifth with a two-run single to turn a 5-1 early deficit into a two-run Yellowjackets lead.
Norwich was hampered by the hamstring injury to starter Christian Hotaling, who left after pitching a scoreless first frame. “Oneonta was patient at the plate and the sat on the fastball,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “They did a nice job making contact with runners in scoring position.”
Brock Kossman had a two-run double in the third inning for Norwich.
Nate Jones was a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples and a double leading the Saints past Norwich Saturday afternoon.
Nick Gosney was 3-for-4 to lead Seton with two triples and a double.
Norwich strung together six hits in the sixth inning scoring five runs to make it 7-6. Mike Moon led Norwich with two hits and one RBI, and Kyle Cashman added a two-run single.

WATERVILLE – Sherburne-Earlville pounded Waterville’s pitching opening a 12-5 lead after three innings in Friday’s win.
Mike Doscher and Jake Sampson each went 4-for-6 with four and three RBI apiece to lead S-E. Nate Kline had two hits and four RBI, Joe Moses doubled twice, and Mike McCredy added two hits.
Sampson pitched five innings for the victory.

Edmeston 6, G-MU 2
EDMESTON – Jordan Williams struck out 13 G-MU hitters and allowed four hits in Edmeston’s victory over the Raiders Friday.
Three errors combined with Jake Baulch’s three-run double in the first inning game the Panthers an early advantage.
“Williams throws hard, but I thought we did a good job swinging the bat,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “A couple of crucial errors hurt us.”
Baulch went 3-for-4 to lead Edmeston.
Andrew Delmar had an RBI single in the sixth for G-MU.

Jeff Jones hit for the cycle to lead Unatego, who banged out 25 hits and took advantage of 16 Storm errors.
Justin Peek had two hits for UV.
Saturday, Sidney erupted for 11 runs in the third inning to establish control. Dylan Van Pelt was 5-for-6 at the plate with four runs and two RBI to lead Sidney.

SIDNEY – Greene dropped back-to-back one-run games on the road Friday and Saturday to fall to 4-3-1 this season.
Sidney took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. A bad pick-off throw moved two Sidney runners into scoring position, and the tying and game-winning runs came in on a sacrifice fly and a fielder’s choice.
Zach Finch hit a solo home run for the Warriors as well.
Gage Crumb hit a two-run triple in the second for Greene and Brian Day added an RBI single.
“We hit the ball hard the first few innings, but it was right at them,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “Tyler Kane (Sidney pitcher) did a nice job pitching on the edges of the strike zone.”
Unatego took a three-run lead in the fifth after scoring five runs to prevail over the Trojans. Josh Lambrecht had two hits and two ribbies for the Spartans, and Cody Chambers smacked a solo home run.

HARPURSVILLE – After seeing its five-run lead erased by the the Hornets, Oxford rebounded with three runs in the seventh to win on the road Saturday.
Eddie Grundner’s RBI single scored Kyle Ferrington, and later in the inning Derrick Head’s two-run single provided the margin of victory.
“The only three errors we made came in their five-run fifth inning, and when we cut down the errors, we play pretty well,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer.
Tom Gould had two hits and one RBI, P.J. Hubman added two hits including an RBI triple, and Ferrington had three runs scored and two stolen bases.
Brett Trask picked up the win and Hubman earned the save.
Ryan Dalpiaz had a two-run single in the fifth for Harpursville.

MCGRAW – Otselic Valley won its second blowout game this past week, and did so Friday by staying patient at the plate.
“Most of their pitchers had a difficult time finding the strike zone, and walked batter after batter,” said OV coach Dave Loomis.
Brad Wentworth and Trevor Marston paced the Vikings with three RBI apiece. Dave Cerasani pitched five innings for the victory.

WATERVILLE – Sherburne-Earlville improved to 3-0 on the season getting three hits and three RBI from Sam Crandall, and 10 strikeouts from winning pitcher Lindsay Hodges.
Crandall hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to up the Marauders’ lead to 6-2. Brenda Hoefler contributed two hits and two RBI. “Their pitcher threw at a different speed, and it took a bit of time for our girls to stay on the pitches and adjust,” said S-E coach Scott Fitzpatrick.
The Marauders play at Cooperstown Monday.

OTEGO – Greene extended its winning streak to eight games with a shutout victory at Unatego Saturday.
Erin Smith went 3-for-5 with a two-run triple, Caitlin Willis and two hits and two RBI, Rebecca Hanrahan had three hits and two RBI, and Brittany Youngs converted three hits into three runs scored.
Hanrahan tossed a three-hitter striking out 14 and walking none.

NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley bounced back from a lopsided loss the night before defeating Unatego Friday with clutch hitting in the late innings.
With two outs in the sixth, Brooke Maynard doubled for the Storm (2-3), and she scored the tying run on Hannah Johnson’s RBI single.
Leslie Barnes singled and stole second in the seventh for UV, and she came home on Kara Collins’ game-winning hit.
“Our varsity experience took over (with the hitting) in the last two innings,” said UV coach Brandi Backus.
Johnson added a triple for the Storm. Breanne White allowed five hits to pick up the victory.

MCGRAW – Playing its first game this season, OV struggled at times in the field, and dropped a decision Friday at McGraw.
“We made some mistakes, but we have a lot of freshmen and sophomores, and I’m pleased,” said OV coach Eileen Knickerbocker.
McGraw scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull out to a 13-2 lead.
Christina Garcia had three hits including a triple to lead OV, while Cindy Slack added two hits, one of those a three-bagger.
The Vikings play at Madison Thursday.

Boys’ Tennis

Greene 4, Oxford 1
GREENE – Greene swept the three singles matches getting victories from Josh Clink, Ethan Buhl, and Brett Hennessey to improve its record to 5-1 this season.
Oxford avoided a shutout when Andrew Campbell and Nick Blair won in three sets at second doubles.
Greene is at Delhi today.
