S-E completes first run through league play unbeaten

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville completed its first run the Center State Conference play unbeaten knocking off Sauquoit Valley Thursday.
The Indians, who had just beaten Cooperstown the day before, allowed nine runs to S-E in the fourth who are now 5-0 in division play. “We’re really hitting the ball well now,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks, whose team had 21 hits. After building a 12-0 lead, he pulled back the reins on his team’s offense. “This puts us in pretty good shape for the second half of the division schedule.”
Mike Doscher was a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, Jake Sampson went 4-for-5 with three RBI, Stephen Buddenhagen went 3-for-3 with three ribbies, and Nate Kline finished 3-for-4 with two RBI.
S-E hosts Canastota Monday.

MADISON – Otselic Valley improved to 4-0 scoring seven runs in the fourth to build a nine-run lead.
David Cerasani, Brad Wentworth, and Adam Duell all had two RBI for the Vikings. Jamin Selan finished 3-for-5 at the plate, and Karl Graham was 2-for-3. Cerasani pitched a complete-game four-hitter for the win.
“Their pitchers ran into some control problems in the fourth inning, and we were able to put the game out of reach,” said OV coach Dave Loomis.
The Vikings host McGraw Monday.

The Marauders spread out their five hits and never threatened to score until the seventh inning when the lone run came in on a passed ball.
“We had a difficult time adjusting to the pitcher’s speed, and we weren’t patient enough at the plate,” said S-E coach Scott Fitzpatrick.
The Marauders play Clinton Saturday at 2 p.m.

BAINBRIDGE – Oxford halted a seven-game losing streak winning at Bainbridge-Guilford Wednesday.
Marlena Frank hit a three-run triple in the first and a two-run double in the second helping Oxford (3-7) build an 8-2 lead. Alyshia Crawford added a two-run triple as part of a four-run seventh inning extending the lead to 15-5.
Allie Nelson led Oxford with a 4-for-5 day at the plate, while Crawford, Ashlee Farwell, and Nicole Stoddard all had three hits.
“We’ve hit the ball well two games in a row, and our pitching and defense came through in this game,” said Oxford coach Margo Barrows. “We just have to keep on a roll as we play some of the better teams in our league.”
Oxford hosts Afton today.

GREENE – Greene tuned up for its Friday matchup against unbeaten Sidney beating B-G for the second time in as many days.
Winners 4-1 on Wednesday over the Bobcats, the lone loss in doubles, the Trojans (8-1) won both doubles matches in straight sets.
In an earlier meeting with Sidney this season, Greene’s two team points came in doubles in a 3-2 loss. “I know my guys are pretty geared up for the match,” said Greene coach Rich Karl. “Our singles players weren’t blown away the first time, they just need to step it up. If they play well, any one of them can win.”

Oxford (2-5) plays Walton Tuesday at Delhi Golf Club.
