EARLVILLE – The old meets the new when the musical styling of the Lost Bayou Ramblers comes to the Earlville Opera House on Saturday at 8 p.m.  Traditional Cajun music with a contemporary twist is what defines the sound of LBR.  The band produces captivating original music all while tapping into the diverse repertoire of smokin’ Louisiana French tunes. 

Founded in 1999, the Lost Bayou Ramblers is led by brothers Louis and Andre Michot, on fiddle and accordion, respectively.  When the brothers matched up with Chris “Oscar” Courville’s bass-stomp centered drumming, Alan LaFleur’s heavy-thumping upright bass, Cavan Carruth’s hard-chocking rhythm guitar, the band began to play their “deep swamp beat” around Acadiana and eventually all over the United States. 

The band has five recordings to date that explore a wide range of styles ranging from pre-commercial fiddle music and early accordion dancehall tunes to Cajun-inspired western swing popularized in the 1930’s and 40’s along with original compositions.  Their music in undeniably traditional, going back to the early days of Louisiana French music, but they have a fresh, compelling sound that is raw and lyrical at the same time.
