Colorscape has scholarships for emerging artists

NORWICH – Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival is pleased to provide for the second time, through Francis K. Wilcox Scholarship Awards for Emerging Young Artists, an opportunity for high school art students to experience the professional art world at this year’s 15th Annual Colorscape on Sept. 12 and 13 in downtown Norwich and to receive cash awards to further their artistic endeavors.
Eligibility has been extended to include both junior and graduating seniors (2009-2010 academic year) who live or attend school within Chenango County who are interested in pursuing artistic careers. This includes private schools and home-schooled students. The application deadline is May 15.
The 2009 Francis K. Wilcox Scholarship Awards of $350 per Emerging Young Artist exhibitor (maximum three per year) will be presented at the complimentary Awards Breakfast on the Sunday morning of Colorscape. Also, $100 gift certificates good for Golden Artist Colors products will be awarded to each Emerging Young Artist exhibitor. Recipients will have the opportunity display and sell their work in a booth provided by Colorscape and participate fully with other exhibitors, giving them the experience of taking part in a juried art festival with professional artists. Selected student artists will be required to be present during the entire event in person.
Applications are available in Norwich at Made in Chenango, Art Upstairs and the Chenango County Council of the Arts, in Oxford at Gallery 3-2-1, and in Greene at HeartSong Design, as well as Chenango County high school art departments and guidance offices and local public libraries. You can also contact Colorscape directly at art@colorscape.org or by calling 336-3378. A PDF of the prospectus is now available at www.colorscape.org  which includes complete regulations and image specifications.  Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival will only accept digital images for review. Jury decisions will be based on creativity, workmanship, continuity of work, and a written biography.
Mail your completed application to: Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival, Inc., Emerging Young Artist Application, P.O. Box 624, Norwich, NY 13815. Applicants should include: the completed application form; a brief biography outlining your artistic accomplishments to date and plans for the future; three images representative of work to be displayed; and a SASE (2 oz. postage).
