New York canal enthusiasts tour historic Oxford
OXFORD – A tour bus filled with 75 members of the Society of New York State (CSNYS) visited historic Oxford village April 25. Canal enthusiasts from across the state received a whirlwind tour of Oxford village which included a short stop in the Oxford Historical Society Depot-Museum for a look around and a slide show about the Chenango Canal. Other sites were the (1894) Bank building, the (1809) Burr House-Library, Hoppie’s and historic homes.
The CSNYS, headquartered in Marcellus, sponsored their annual members’ tour to cover the history of the Chenango Canal from Hamilton to Greene. CSNYS Program Chairs Michele D. Beilman, Executive Director and Michele “Shelley” McFee, Director and canal book author, directed the tour.
