No parking stickers for employees
NORWICH – Making Chenango County government employees put parking permits on their vehicles to prevent misuse of public parking spaces in front of the County Office Building probably won’t happen.
Acting on a referral, members of the Safety & Rules Committee said they would, instead, ask the county’s board chairman to remind employees via a notice with their paychecks not to park in public spaces.
Safety & Rules members said they didn’t want to impose any sticker regulations nor enforce them.
“I’m really against passing laws that you can’t enforce,” said Town of Afton Supervisor Robert Briggs.
Town of Coventry Supervisor Janice O’Shea said the public needs to have adequate parking and shouldn’t have to park far away.
“The idea is that if employees know they have a sticker, then they will know where they are supposed to park,” she said.
Town of Lincklaen Supervisor Wayne Outwater suggested the sticker idea to members of the Personnel Committee last month.
After a discussion of where designated spots are for employees and for the public, Briggs said parking spots are easier to find today than they were six years ago before the lot on Front Street was created.
