Sherburne celebrates fourth of July

SHERBURNE – For the sixteenth year in a row, the Sherburne Lions Club will be holding their annual Fourth of July celebration in Paddleford Park. Featuring an array of food, entertainment and family fun, the Lions will be sponsoring the event once again.
According to a Lions Club member, this year’s event is sure to be fun for children and adults of all ages. The entertainment will begin at 11 a.m. as local singer Cassidy Lynn takes the stage. Lynn is a fixture of the Sherburne celebration, having kicked off the musical entertainment for several years. Performing a selection of country western music, Lynn has performed both locally and nationally. She has opened for nationally known bands like Charlie Pride and Trick Pony.
Following the performance by Lynn, Sherburne-Earlville high school junior Pam Powell will take the stage. This year will mark Powell’s second performance at the Sherburne Independence Day celebration.
As the celebration continues, area DJs will play music until approximately 6 p.m. when the last band of the day will take the stage. The local group Knight Ryders will take the stage around 6 and will play a selection of songs until around 9 p.m. when the fireworks will officially begin.
Throughout the course of the day, other entertainment and events will be offered. A little league baseball tournament will be held on the ball fields at Paddleford Park. Several area teams will be participating. In addition, the park’s swimming pool will be open and available for use.
A chicken barbecue will be held through out the day. The chicken will be ready to serve by 11 a.m. Complete dinners and a variety of other foods, including hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage and french fries, will be available.
To help support the event, the Lions Club will hold raffle contests. One raffle will offer a grand prize of a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada. The second place prize is $500 and third place will win $250. A novelty raffle will also be held. The raffle will offer a “lottery tree.” The winner will receive $100 worth of lottery tickets attached to a small evergreen tree. Tickets can be purchased for $1 the day of the event.
The fireworks display will begin at dusk, around 9 p.m.
The Lions Club Independence Day event is free and open to the public. There is no rain date for the event. Paddleford Park is located on Chapel Street in Sherburne.
