Earlville kicks off summer concert series tonight

EARLVILLE – For the second year in a row, the Village of Earlville will be hosting a summer music series, and this year’s season will begin tonight, with local band, Sun Down.
Earlville began a summer concert series last year. Operating with no budget, the village recruited bands to play solely for the tips they received throughout the evening. This year, NBT Bank provided funding for the series, allowing the village to provide a stipend to each of the bands as well as tips from the evening’s performance.
Series organizer Debi Pierce explained that the funding made booking the acts for this year’s series much easier. Eight bands will perform as part of this year’s music series. “We had a lot of great groups last year,” Pierce said. “We tried to get as many as possible from last year, and we tried to add a variety of music to meet the likes of everyone.”
The first performance in the series begins at 7 tonight at the gazebo in the center of town. The band Sun Down will take the stage to kick off the series. A country music band, Sun Down is originally from the New Berlin area and has performed at a variety of local locations and events.
The series will continue on Tuesday, July 14 with a Syracuse area group Small Town Glory. Small Town Glory will be returning to Earlville this year, playing a mixture of contemporary rock music.
On Tuesday, July 21, Captain Morgan and the Rhythm will return for their second appearance in Earlville. The band, made up of high school students from Cazenovia, will perform an array of classic rock tunes.
The following week, a folk music performer will take the stage. New to the concert series, Merrill Amos, a New Berlin area singer, will perform on July 28.
Switching styles, the first performance in August will feature an array of show tunes and Broadway style music. Julianna Slocum, another returning performer, will hit the stage on Aug. 4.
On Aug. 11, an Otselic Valley Band will entertain the crowd. Singing an array of classic rock tunes, Short Notice will make their first appearance in Earlville.
The final two performers in the concert series are yet to be announced, but Pierce said the entertainment will continue through Aug. 25.
Although last year was the first year for the series, Pierce said the event was a huge success. “The smallest night, we had over 30 people, and there were a couple times when we had over 100, which was wonderful,” she said. “The town supports what goes on here.”
Light refreshments are available at the events, provided by the Earlville Free Library and the First Baptist Church. In the event of rain, the concerts will most likely be moved to an indoor location. Information will be posted if the location is moved. “This is a great time to get out and listen to some great music,” Pierce said.
