Bikers hold charity rides this weekend
CHENANGO COUNTY – Bikers in and around Chenango County will have options for events this weekend, as two different charity rides are held on Saturday.
Area bikers have a reputation for taking up charitable causes and helping to raise money for different organizations. This weekend, the biking population will have their choice of events as the Ride for Diabetes and Bikers for Babies events will both be held on Saturday.
The second annual Ride for Diabetes is being held in memory of Oxford resident Heidee Peterson. Organized by her mother Nancy Peterson, the ride was started as a way to honor Heidee’s memory. The 28-year-old battled diabetes throughout her life, and died of complications due to the disease in 2007.
Registration for the Ride for Diabetes will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the park in Oxford. Registration will be $15 for single riders, and $25 for double riders. According to the event organizer, last year, the event raised $1,600 for the American Diabetes Association. No goal has been set for this year, but Peterson said she is hoping to raise more than last year. The money raised at the event will be used for research towards finding a cure for diabetes.
