PITTSFIELD – Police are searching for the body of a 23-year-old New Berlin man believed to have downed at around 8 p.m. Sunday after the boat he and his girlfriend were in sank during a thunderstorm.

After swimming to shore and not being able to locate her boyfriend, the woman called 911 at 8:32 p.m. to report the incident, according to the New York State Police.

The State Police Dive team, along with aid from the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and Greene Police Department’s dive teams, began searching the water of Silver Lake in the Town of Pittsfield last night, but halted their such due to severe weather. They began searching the lake again this morning and the alleged victim’s body has not yet been located.
