Commerce Chenango hosts second “Good Morning Chenango!”
NORWICH – On Tuesday, local business leaders will have the opportunity to learn how to combat the “brain drain” often experienced in rural areas as Commerce Chenango presents the second in a series of programs designed to keep area businesses informed about current economic and legislative issues.
The program, called Good Morning Chenango!, will take place at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at the American Legion in Norwich. GHS Federal Credit Union will be sponsoring the event, which will feature Dr. Ray Cross, president of Morrisville State College, as guest speaker.
According to Audrey Robinson of Commerce Chenango, Cross will speak during the event on the topic of “Identifying Opportunities: Engaging Young Men and Women in our Future.”
During the presentation, he will share information about a number of problems facing our rural communities and how these problems can be used to engage and excite the often discouraged and disconnected young people who are leaving our communities and our state, Robinson reported.
“Most people want to be involved in something that really matters, something that will make a difference, something that will give their lives meaning,” Cross himself explained. “Finding ways to address our energy crisis, effectively use our waste streams, and to make our food fresher and safer, all represent issues that really matter. Sharing our vision for rural community’s upstate with passion is the first step to slowing the exodus of our college graduates.”
The event is open to Chamber members at a cost of $15 per person, which includes a breakfast buffet.
