Woman injured in Sherburne sexual assault case
SHERBURNE – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Sherburne man Saturday after he allegedly sexually assaulted his female roommate, causing injuries that required her hospitalization.
Twenty-six-year-old Lee Anthony Warner is charged with first-degree criminal sexual act, a class B felony, and second-degree assault, a class D felony. He was arraigned in Sherburne Village Court and remanded to the Chenango County jail on $25,000 cash bail.
The charges accuse Warner of having “forcible deviate sexual intercourse” with the 25-year-old alleged victim.
Lt. James E. Lloyd said the residence was not known to police for past domestic violence incidents, but referred to the crime as a domestic incident because the defendant and the victim had a past personal relationship.
“Due to the very personal nature of the injuries the victim sustained, we are not releasing any details regarding the incident,” he said. “She was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital following the attack and treated for her injuries there. She was released later that day.”
Lloyd said the extent of the injuries were such that they qualified the assault as a felony-level case.
Warner is scheduled to appear back in Village of Sherburne Court on Sept. 17.
