New Berlin marijuana crop cleared by police

NEW BERLIN – Tuesday, police officers in the Town of New Berlin raided the property of a 51-year-old man and seized 35 marijuana plants, estimated to have a street value of $25,000 to $35,000.

Michael F. Dibbell was charged with growing cannabis, a misdemeanor, by the Town of New Berlin Police Department after they, along with the New York State Police, searched the 70-acre property with a helicopter.

New Berlin’s acting officer in charge, Dominick Commessol said police had arrested Dibbell for “the exact same crime,” in the past, but he couldn’t recall the exact date of the incident.

“We did a couple of fly-overs in a state police helicopter, searching a total of seven targeted areas. On the fifth one we found these scattered all over the property in the ground and in pots,” he said.
