DELHI – Greene was strong at the beginning and strong at the end of its meet with Delhi Tuesday night.
The Trojans overcame their top MAC rival winning the first three events, and then closing with three wins to win their season-opener.
“It’s always a heavyweight bout between us and Delhi, and that’s what it will probably be at the league championships later this year,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “Our swimmers were mentally and physically prepared tonight.”
Jessica Brooks, making her debut for the Trojans, was a four-time winner to lead the way. Katie Crowe had two victories, while Leah Kazalski and Jessica Treadwell added a pair of wins.
Greene visits Johnson City on Thursday.

NORWICH – Needing to win the last event for its first victory this season, the Tornado edged out Sus Valley, and added a third-place in the meet-closing 400-yard freestyle relay Tuesday night.
“It was definitely even all the way through the meet, and we needed the last event,” said Norwich coach Amanda Downey, who said her club trailed by one point entering the last relay.
Sara Loomis keyed Norwich’s victory winning tight races in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. Makenzie Williams was a double winner taking the 200 individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke, while Erin Gawronski claimed a first in the 500-yard freestyle.
“It was back and forth the whole way, and it was nice to get our first win,” Downey said.
Norwich is at Chenango Valley Friday.

GREENE – Greene spotted Unadilla Valley an early goal before rallying for its third win this season.
Amanda Tumilowicz had the Storm in front scoring at 12:34 of the first half. Just over three minutes later, Vanessa Markham tallied for the Trojans (3-2) after a scramble in the penalty box.
Liz Wentlent put in the go-ahead goal hitting a shot from the left corner of the 18-yard box into the lower left corner of the goal. “We were accurate with our shots and our passing was a lot better today,” said Greene coach Brandy Stone. “We were able to capitalize on more opportunities.”
Greene plays at Walton Thursday.

NORWICH – Seton Catholic Central thwarted Norwich’s comeback bid pulling out an overtime win over the hard-charging Tornado.
Seton took the lead 19 seconds into the game on a goal by Amanda Fierle, and Fierle upped the lead to two goals by halftime.
Norwich senior Sarah Bonnell, held scoreless since the opening game, scored the first of her two goals midway through the second half, and tied the game with four minutes left.
Erin Jones netted the winner for the Saints with one minute left in the first overtime.
“Hopefully it will sink in (for our team) how well we played in the second half,” said Norwich coach Jeremy Bolton. “We did a great job tying the game up, but we expended all of our energy, and didn’t have a lot left for overtime.”
Norwich hosts Susquehanna Valley Thursday.

“We had our chances, the difference was they put theirs in, and we didn’t,” said OV coach Kevin Springer. “It was a pretty even game, but you wouldn’t know it by the score.”

The Bobcats sustained more offense than any of their previous six games, and the pressure in the Sidney zone yielded Tasha Gould’s goal. “I changed things around and loaded up our front line more,” said B-G coach George Williams, who admitted he sacrificed some defense with the alignment change. “Both teams could have scored more goals, and it was our best game of the season.”

Julie Heggie deflected Kelli Whitehill’s cornerkick into the goal with two minutes left in the opening half for the game’s lone tally.
Oxford dominated much of the first half, and withstood Walton’s increased pressure over the second half to hang on to the lead.
“We were a little nervous going into this game, and we felt this was a real good win,” said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle. “We talked about what we needed to do in practice, and we executed our game plan well.”
Oxford (1-3) hosts Unatego on Thursday.

After the Marauders’ Oria Bays tied the game with 3:25 left, M-E drew a foul in the penalty box after a handball with 1:56 remaining, and Tyler Banker completed his hat trick nailing a penalty kick for the winner.
Bays had both Marauders goals in the game, and S-E held a slight 10-9 edge in shots on goal.

Ryan Hagen led Norwich (4-3) with a 39, while Eric Walling and Richie Bonney shared the runner-up spots for NHS carding 40s.
