Oxford edges UV in MAC matchup

Oxford 2, Unadilla Valley 1
NEW BERLIN – Oxford won for the fourth time this season edging Unadilla Valley Tuesday in a MAC divisional matchup.
Oxford’s Teresa Morrison had the only goal of the first half getting a crossing pass from Ginny Burdick at the 9:33 mark.
Julie Heggie scored unassisted for the Blackhawks (4-5) 17:02 into the second half to create a two-goal bulge.
“It was another tough loss,” said UV coach Chris Bieniek. “We have good ball movement, good crosses, and we have outshot more than half the teams we have lost to. We just cannot finish.”
UV’s Kara Collins scored unassisted with 1:30 left in the game to break up the shutout.

CHENANGO BRIDGE – Chenango Valley’s Sami Wyatt got loose against the Purple Tornado scoring four times in Tuesday’s contest.
The Warriors led 3-1 at halftime with Norwich’s Sarah Bonnell scoring unassisted.
“It was a rainy, sloppy night all around,” said Norwich coach Jeremy Bolton. “Wyatt had more speed than anyone we had on defense, and she was able to break through and convert her chances. “I thought we had just as many opportunities as they did, we just didn’t finish.”
Norwich plays at Johnson City on Thursday.

BAINBRIDGE – Amanda Maxwell capitalized on a foul in the B-G penalty box, and had both of the Bulldogs’ goals in a shutout of the Bobcats Tuesday.
An chance handball led to Maxwell’s successful penalty kick at the 16:09 mark, and her second goal proved deflating for the hosts as it came with just 2:06 remaining in the opening half.
“We had a few opportunities to score, but nothing great,” said B-G coach George Williams.
B-G hosts Unatego Thursday.

GREENE – Greene made a successful debut on its new field turf blowing out Windsor in Tuesday’s Section IV Conference game.
Freshman Jahna Driscoll had a pair of first-half goals for the unbeaten Trojans, and juniors Anna Crumb and Andrea Day added tallies to make it a four-goal halftime lead.
Crumb finished with two goals and two assists. Christine Conroe, Amy David, and Emily Clark added second-half goals for Greene.

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville picked up its second win of the season routing Herkimer at home on Tuesday.
Matt Piazzi scored his first two goals of the season, each in the first half, to give the Marauders (2-7-1) an early advantage. Piazzi tapped in a pass from Eric Muth for the opener, than connected on a shot from the 18-yard line. Muth also had two goals for S-E.
“I was really happy with the combination passing we had today, and guys were able to beat defenders one-on-one,” said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez.
The Marauders host Morrisville-Eaton on Thursday.

DOWNSVILLE – G-MU’s offensive pressure yielded a pair of first-half goals in Tuesday’s non-league shutout of Downsville.
Peter Schmidt had both first-half goals for the Raiders (4-4-2), who evened their mark on the season. “We made some nice runs to the front of the goal and had plenty of opportunities to score,” said G-MU coach Mark Luettger.
Corin Todd tallied in the second half for the Raiders, who host Edmeston Thursday.

PLYMOUTH – In a match shortened to six holes due to rain, Norwich prevailed by three strokes over Chenango Forks on Tuesday afternoon.
Playing the first five holes at Canasawacta Country Club and the par-four 15th hole, Frank Somich had a 27, or 3-over-par, to lead the Tornado (8-5). “We had very good scores with the rainy, windy conditions,” said Norwich coach Bob Branham. “The conditions were hard on everyone, and we just tried to play it shot by shot.”
Jacob Kelly and Eric Walling turned in 29s for Norwich, who play at Johnson City on Monday

NORWICH – Norwich dropped a two-point decision to Johnson City in a home meet that also included Oneonta facing off against the Wildcats.
Jamie Zieno (5th, 21:00) and Mike Laureanti (6th, 21:48) were Norwich’s top place-winners out of 19 runners over the 3.1-mile course at Gibson Elementary School.
