Chenango Piecemakers hosts quilt show this weekend

OXFORD – This weekend, more than 300 handmade quilts will be on display at the Oxford High School gymnasium by the Chenango Piecemakers Guild for their acclaimed biennial fundraiser, the Festival of Quilts.

The 100-plus member guild boasts about 320 exhibits made by the group’s members themselves.

The three-day event is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Admission is $4.

Patrons will be greeted by many of the artists at the show and will have a diverse selection of displays to visit including the show’s feature artists, an antique quilt display and a gift shop. One of this year’s featured artists is Marilyn Belford, who specializes in making portraits in her designs.

The guild has also worked with other local groups to offer a chicken barbecue and other lunch offerings each day of the event.

Guild spokeswoman Kim Betts said the event is the largest fundraiser for the group, which donates much of its time to helping other non-profit organizations raise money.

“We all come together to share our common love of quilting, but a lot of what we do involves charity work in the community,” she said. “Many of the members are very involved and helping out other local organizations is what really helps hold us together and attract new members.”
