Oxford cruises to 9-1 win over Afton

Oxford 9, Afton 1
OXFORD – Oxford was able to capitalize on Afton’s short-handed lineup to post its third straight win on Tuesday.
Taylor Bates and Noah Auwater had two goals for Oxford. Justin Schray, Kyle Ferrington, Ryan Moore, Branden McConnell, and Ralph Renaud also tallied in the win.
“You could tell (Afton) was not the team we saw the first time,” said Oxford coach Matt Dorman. “Our guys had some opportunities, and they were able to find the back of the net.”
Oxford improved its record to 10-3 on the season. Afton dropped to 1-10 overall.

NEW BERLIN – Dale Morley’s goal midway through the first half set off a flurry of Warriors tallies in a shutout win over UV Tuesday.
After Morley’s tally, Walton put three quick goals on the board to create a 4-0 halftime lead. “After their first goal, we just had a letdown,” said UV coach Ryan Houck. “We played much better in the second half.”
UV plays at Unatego Saturday.

Alex Driscoll scored after a Ryan Ludwig pass for the only goal of the first half.
Mikki Brown and David Cass had unassisted goals in the second half.

WATERVILLE – Waterville controlled play in the first half putting in two goals and all but two of its 10 shots in a shutout of the Marauders Tuesday.
Mike Ellis and Scott Rockwell put the host team on top in the first half.
S-E turned its play around in the second half, and had four breakaways that came up short. “We just dominated in the second half, but could not put a goal away,” said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez. “They capitalized on their scoring chances, and we didn’t.”
S-E (4-10-1) hosts Waterville this coming Monday.

Franklin 3, G-MU 2
COPES CORNERS – Franklin scored 29 seconds into the game, and after G-MU battled back from a two-goal deficit, the Purple Devils put away the winner with 2:30 remaining in the contest.
Jessie Tirado scored in the opening minute, and Dakota Hanley added to the lead for Franklin.
G-MU bounced back to tie the game as Calli Hill scored once and assisted Lauren Hill on the next tally.
Lily Stalter netted the winning penalty kick after a G-MU sliding tackle foul within the 18-yard box.

AFTON – The Makos avenged a loss at Cooperstown earlier this season to pick up their first win on Tuesday.
Alexis Macy, and Erin Daly had four total wins on the day. Peyton Cutting and Chelsea DeMott added three wins. “We knew every point would count tonight, and our lineup came up big all the way through,” said A/B-G coach Kevin Diefenbacher. “We’re a month away from sectionals, and this is the part of the season where we need to step it up.”
The Makos face Delhi on Friday.

WINDSOR – Greene won the first of its three meets this week taking 11 of 12 events at Windsor Tuesday.
The Trojans swept first through third in the 100-yard freestyle, and added a one-two finish in the meet-closing 400-yard freestyle relay.
“We looked at this as a good warmup for Norwich tonight,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “We always get up for Norwich, and our meets with them are usually competitive.”
Jessica Brooks, Jenny Yeager, and Katie Crowe won two individual events apiece. Emily Bertram, Jessica Treadwell, Leah Kazalski, and Deanna Bay had multiple wins on the day as well.

STAC Championships
BINGHAMTON – Seton Catholic Central finished 10 shots ahead of the next best team to claim the STAC team title at the STAC Championships Tuesday at Ely Park Golf Club.
Norwich, second in its division this season, sent four players to the tournament. Sophomore Eric Walling led the Purple with an 83. Jacob Kelly was next at 89, while Ryan Hagen had a 93 and Frank Somich at 97.
Norwich finished with a 9-7 season record and qualified for the Class B team sectionals in the spring. Kelly and Walling, based on their season match scoring average, qualified for the sectional medalist tournament, also in the spring.
