Guilford Historical Society publishes new book
GUILFORD – Everyone has been waiting in anticipation for the Guilford Historical Society’s latest edition of the cemetery books. “From the Hills of North Guilford” is finally here!
The book on North Guilford Pioneer Cemetery features not only the database of the burials in North Guilford but, Tom Gray, Guilford Town Historian has done extensive research on the early settlers and has added much of the history of the people. Also included in the book are details of the early roads and businesses as the hamlet developed. The book fills in sections of history, before and after, that is in the “North Guilford Pioneers” book written by Josephine Thompson and Ida Palin. The “North Guilford Pioneers” book is currently being readied for reprinting by the Chenango County Historical Society, to be released at a later date.
“From the Hills of North Guilford” also includes notes in the database of marriages and parents, a must for those seeking their roots. Included are many photos of the people and their homes and farms. The book is dedicated to the early settlers that came as early as 1791. New research has uncovered settlers that were not recorded before. One hundred copies were printed and purchased from the Sherburne News print shop, so call early to get your copy as they will go fast. The book is one in a series of books, on the 22 cemeteries of the Town of Guilford. From book to book, one can see inter-relationships of the people that came and settled here.
