DELHI –Needing a victory in the final event, Greene edged out Delhi in the 400-yard freestyle relay, and did so with the second fastest time in school history.
Jessica Treadwell, Leah Kazalski, Jessica Brooks, and Katie Crowe finished just ahead of Delhi in 4:06.24 to wrap up the MAC team title Friday night.
“This was such an exciting meet, the best I’ve been involved with,” said Greene head coach Mike Platta. “We talked about leagues being our ultimate goal, and when we needed fast swims, (our team) stepped right up and did it.”
The Trojans, who were unbeaten in division matchups this year, were down 26 points to the Bulldogs after four events. Kazalski helped ignite the comeback winning the diving competition in an 11-dive school-record, 262.90 points.
The Trojans began a four-event streak of wins to end the meet with the 200-free relay. Brooks and Crowe took the backstroke and breaststroke events respectively setting up the final race. Heading into the last event, Greene led Delhi by a scant two points. A win in the event stretched the final margin of victory to eight points, and a runner-up finish in the event would have resulted in a four-point deficit.
“We were able to put on a furious rally at the end,” Platta said. “This is why we swim the bigger, faster teams during the regular season. When crunch time comes, we’re ready to give maximum efforts, and that’s what it took to beat Delhi.”
Hannah Bollinger picked up a win for Sherburne-Earlville taking the 200-yard freestyle in 2:15.03.
Sectionals begin the first week of November.
Team scoring: Greene 322; Delhi 314; Sherburne-Earlville 196; Cooperstown 176; Afton-B-G, 119.

Owego 103, Norwich 77
OWEGO – Norwich swam 15 best times Friday at Owego, but that was not enough in the Tornado’s defeat on Friday.
Makenzie Williams swam a season-best time of 1:15.50 to win the 100-yard breaststroke. The Tornado also won the 400-yard freestyle relay.
“We knew Owego had a strong program, we were just happy to have some really good times,” said Norwich coach Amanda Downey. “This is the pool we’ll swim in at sectionals. It was good for the team to see that this is a fast pool, and they can do well.”
