Oxford restaurant reports weekend break-in

OXFORD – New York State Police are investigating a weekend break-in at the Hoppie’s Ice Cream Parlor in the Village of Oxford.

At about 5 a.m. Monday, employees opening up in downtown Oxford discovered the cash drawer and all the store’s goodwill collections missing.

“I’m just at my wit’s end. Trying to make it as a small business owner is already really tough and all the money being taken only makes it worse,” said Hoppie’s owner Danielle Williamson.

Investigators looking into the case requested the details of the crime be kept confidential, so the method of the break-in and the exact amount stolen is not being released.

Williamson said she lost hundreds of dollars in the theft and that local aid groups such as the SPCA and the donations for Todd Harvey were also stolen. Harvey and his family are raising money over his life-threatening battle with a form of skin cancer.
