'Barrage!' returns to Norwich for Saturday show

NORWICH – Following last year’s sold out performance, the exciting string group Barrage returns to The Chenango County Council of the Arts, 27 West Main Street, Norwich on Saturday at 7 p.m. with their new show, “Animado.”

A high octane fiddle fest that features an international, multi-talented cast performing an eclectic mix of music, song and dance. Barrage has entertained millions of people around the globe with fans in Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and North America. Barrage’s new show “Animado!” offers up a diverse fusion of cultures, musical styles, and incredible performance vitality. The music of Barrage continues to evolve – combining contemporary world music influences, layered vocal arrangements and pulsating modern beats and rhythms. “Animado!” pulls its influences from the music and dance styles of “Old World” Europe. Spanish, Celtic, Italian, French, Ukrainian, Russian and Norwegian are the ingredients for “Animado!”- which means lively in Spanish. The young, hip cast delivers the show with amazing energy and musical virtuosity that will take your breath away.

Since its creation in Calgary, Canada in 1996, Barrage has been featured many times at events worldwide having played for many Presidents, Prime Ministers and Princes. Barrage has also had their television productions aired on several international TV networks including the PBS network in the USA, the BBC in the UK and CBC in Canada and has performed live shows in New Zealand, Singapore, Guatemala, Taiwan, China, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Ireland, Denmark, Poland, Germany, Norway, Monaco, the USA and the UK.
The cast of Barrage features six violinists/vocalists, drummer, bass player, and guitarist. The show is a creative offering of 5 to 1 Entertainments, the team responsible for determining the show’s music selections, training each player, composing and arranging all music and recording and producing all shows.
This performance by Barrage is the 2nd offering in the Council of the Arts’ 2008/09 Performing Arts “People’s Choice” Series and is sponsored by NBT Bank and the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency. Upcoming performances include The Moscow Boys Choir on December 2, DRUID – featuring the Three Irish Tenors on March 4, and Tom Chapin and Friends on May 7. In addition, the Council’s Chamber Music Series begins Feb. 20 with The Manhattan String Quartet and continues on March 7 with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet and March 21 with The Star Trio.
