Norwich resumes high school principal search
NORWICH – In less than two weeks, the Norwich City School District will resume its search for a high school principal.
According to a timeline prepared by Superintendent Gerard O’Sullivan and distributed to school board members Wednesday night, the district will begin advertising the position by Dec. 1.
The job will be advertised in a number of newspapers, communicated directly to college placement offices and posted to both education-specific and general employment websites, the administrator reported.
The job posting will remain open until March 1, at which time the screening of applicants will begin.
In February, interview committees comprised of administrators, parents, student and staff will be recruited. These committees will begin interviewing applicants on or about March 22, according to the timeline.
The schedule had already been shared with faculty members and some had already indicated their interest in being included in the screening process, the superintendent reported.
Based on the results of the screening and those preliminary interviews, candidates will be called back for second interviews the last week of March. The intention, according to O’Sullivan, is to have a final candidate selected and presented to the board for approval by the group’s April 28 meeting.
Interim High School Principal Dr. Bob Cleveland, who was present at the meeting, told the board that while he is enjoying his role at the school, he too is anxious for the search process to start.
His current contract with the district, which was renewed this summer after last year’s search was unsuccessful, is due to expire on June 30, 2010.
