Chenango artists highlighted at Arts Council’s member show tonight

NORWICH – The Chenango County Council of the Arts opens its annual Members Exhibit tonight with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mariea Brown and Raymond Loft Galleries, 27 West Main St.

All members of the Council of the Arts are invited each year to display artwork during this exhibit. This year, over 60 pieces in various media are on display, representing 23 artists. Drawing, painting, photography, stained glass, fiber art and tole painting are all available for viewing. In addition, the Council’s Holiday Gift Store (also opening on the 20th) has affordable gifts by Chenango County artists for your holiday shopping.

The Members Exhibit was juried by Henry Drexler and Leigh Yardley.

Drexler is a landscape painter and native of Chenango County. He works in acrylic and paints the landscape of central New York. He is a graduate of Cornell, Syracuse and NYU and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Tchad. His studio, known as Matai House, was designed and built by the artist. It is located at 300 Aldrich Rd., in Guilford. His work is in museum, corporate and private collections throughout the United States. Some of his paintings can be viewed at www.drexlerart.com.
