Norwich police warning citizens to lock up
NORWICH – The Norwich Police Department is warning local citizens to lock their cars and homes after a recent rash of home burglaries and thefts from vehicles.
“All city residents are encouraged to secure their property no matter the time of day. Valuables should be removed from vehicles and homeowners should take precautions by locking their homes, doors and windows even if they are away from their property for short periods of time,” said Norwich Police Chief Joseph Angelino.
The Norwich PD has been investigating a series of burglaries and thefts that have taken place around the City of Norwich since Nov. 28.
Angelino said officers are investigating the complaints by conducting neighborhood interviews and speaking with local residents in hopes of locating potential witnesses.
Residents are encouraged to call the police department with any information at 334-1212.
“Neighbors need to watch out for neighbors. Folks usually know when something or someone appears to be out of place around their homes. I urge you to call the police when you are suspicious. It’s not a bother to us, that’s what we are here for,” said Angelino.
Police said residents who discover they have fallen victim to such crimes should report them, even if the items taken are of little value. Police also want residents to report any attempted break-in or suspicion one may have taken place, even if the culprits did not gain entry.
Angelino said the PD is currently tracking the crimes and officers are taking additional measures to monitor for these types of incidents.
