“A Night of Cookies and Cream” is back
NORWICH – The Children’s Center will be hosting their 2nd Annual Cookies and Cream event at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28. The Norwich Fire House will open their doors and welcome the community for an evening of fun. Families will be invited to enjoy free cookies and milk and other fun activities. Local Celebrities will donate cookies and they will be auctioned during the event. All proceeds will support the Children’s Center Scholarship Fund Program.
Dr Jane Coddington, Executive Director at Catholic Charities of Chenango County commented on the critical need for the scholarship program, “In 2008, the scholarship fund provided resources for 48% of the families served at the Children’s Center. The financial challenges of 2009 had an impact at the Children’s Center resulting in scholarship fund utilization increase to 98%.”
Coddington urged the community to embrace this event and find ways to get involved.
Last year the event gathered over 200 people and raised approximately $4,000 from bids and miscellaneous contributions. The 2010 fundraising event has a $10,000 goal. Martha Brower-Ryan has accepted the Fundraising Leadership Role again this year and will be organizing the event. She is making a call to the community to get involved. She has provided a list of 10 things people in the community can do to support the event:
1. Post fliers and posters of the event at businesses, store or agency’s bulletin board
2. Donate napkins, cups, and small plates
3. Write a letter to the Editor encouraging the community to participate in the event
4. Send emails to friends asking them to bid celebrity cookies on-line (coming soon)
5. Post the event on personal Facebook sites and ask friends to join a virtual cookie bidding
6. Donate balloons, strings or helium for the event
7. Ask employees to bake cookies and sell them at the office to raise funds for the auction.
8. Share the link to the website at www.thechildrenscenter.org with others
9. Volunteer to work at the welcome table (greet visitors)
10. Mark the calendar with January 28th and plan to join the event and bid on Celebrity Cookies!
