ABGHS 85, Cooperstown 77
AFTON – In spite of winning just two of the 11 events, the Makos’ superior depth gave it an eight-point win over Cooperstown Thursday.
“They had the top swimmers most of the time, but we would end up placing second, third, and fourth,” said ABGHS coach Kevin Diefenbacher. “All of our swimmers’ times are bunched really well. We’re off to a good start (2-0), we’ll see how the rest of the duals go.”
Picking up wins for the Makos were Rob McLean in the 100 breastroke (1:21.35) and Nate Cutting in the 500 free (6:22.12).
ABGHS is at Oneonta on Tuesday.

Greene 104, S-E 66
GREENE – Greene won its 44th straight Midstate Athletic Conference dual meet defeating Sherburne-Earlville on Thursday.
The Trojans (2-0) earned a great measure of their lead sweeping the top three spots in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. George Flanagan claimed the 50 free for the Trojans, and Ryan Ludwig was a winner in the 100.
“Even though the score does not indicate it, Sherburne-Earlville has improved quite a bit,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “Our kids were up for this meet.”
Greene competes at Chenango Valley on Tuesday.

Greene 54, Deposit 15
GREENE – Greene raised its dual meet record to 3-0 on the season beating Deposit on Thursday evening.
After dropping the opening match at 103 pounds, the Trojans won the next seven to take command. Along the win, Jacob Shearer (119), Trevor Parris (125), Dan Dickman (130), Nick Wilcox (135), Mikail Brown (140), Mike Beckwith (145), and Brett Ramsey (152) won by pinfall to establish a big lead.
In one of the night’s feature bouts, Darin Wignall (160) the number one ranked wrestler in his weight class in the MAC, eked out a 4-3 over Greene’s Keegan Cerwinski. A late second-period reversal gave Wignall a 4-2 lead. Cerwinski escaped in the third, and pushed the action the last 45 seconds.
“We pushed and pushed, but weren’t able to get a stalling call,” said Greene coach Tim Jenks. “The match ended on their feet, which was good.”
Greene hosts Norwich Saturday at 10 a.m.

In the first match on the mat, UV’s Zach Gramstad won by pinfall at 135pounds. Oxford’s Eric Frank (140) and Devin DePew (130) won decisions, and Nick Ansen (103) picked up a victory by pinfall.
Zach Montgomery (152) won by pinfall for UV, and needed just 20 seconds to secure the win.

SHERBURNE – Cooperstown’s Miranda Menhinick had 19 assists, and Sara Dewey 12 kills in a shutout win over Sherburne-Earlville Thursday.
Megan Matott led S-E (0-4) with three kills. Carissa Knickerbocker and Candace Ward chipped in with three aces apiece.

Cassie Prezorski had four kills and five assists for the Crimson Knights, and Bekah Prezorski topped her club with 11 digs.
Afton plays at Greene on Saturday.

Five Oxford players shared team honors with two aces apiece. Chelsea Roach added two assists and Malorey Muzzy two kills.
Greene is at Afton Saturday and Oxford takes on UV the same day.

Boys’ Basketball

S-E 61, Sauquoit Valley 55
SAUQUOIT – Sherburne-Earlville’s fast start yielded it an 11-point lead at the first turn, an advantage it wouldn’t give up in winning for the fourth time in five games Thursday.
S-E put up 40 points in the first half and had two three-pointers from reserve Cameron Yerton in the second quarter, while leading scorer Sean Boise knocked in seven of his 14. “We were running and pushing the ball in the first half, and our bench stepped up big today,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard, whose reserves finished with 22 points.
The Indians slowed the pace in the second half with a three-quarter court press, but failed to make a dent in the S-E lead until the fourth quarter.
Branden McDaniel added 12 points for the Marauders and Ethan Johnson pulled down a team-high 13 boards. Yerton and fellow reserve Paul Romanenko split 16 points evenly.

NORWICH – Ryan Rose and Luke Halberg had 12 points apiece in the opening half as the Crusaders opened up a 33-13 halftime lead en route to a comfortable win earlier this week.
Halberg finished with a game-high 22 points, while Rose added 18 points and Reid Rose eight.

Boys’ Bowling

Norwich 5, Chenango Forks 0
CHENANGO FORKS – Norwich won its third straight match by shutout defeating Chenango Forks on the road Thursday afternoon.
Ryan Burlison topped the Tornado keglers with a season-best 646, Kevin Rooney posted a season-high 636, and lead-off man Arden Hamstra racked up his best series of the season finishing with a 582.
The NHS bowling team will host its fundraiser on Tuesday, Dec. 15 from 5-9 p.m. at Pasquale’s Pizzeria in Norwich. Pasquale’s will donate a portion of each customer’s bill (eat-in or take-out) toward the Norwich bowling team to fund team shirts.
