COPES CORNERS – Morris held G-MU to just eight points in the first half to establish a 27-8 lead in Monday’s Tri-Valley League victory.
Eric Smith led a balanced Mustangs lineup with 13 points. Defensively, G-MU had multiple turnovers in the first half managing just 10 field goal attempts.
“Morris is certainly one of the best teams in the league,” said G-MU coach Bill Hartman. “They have a number of options offensively. They’re a patient team that shares the ball – they have a nice club over there.”
Jon Scofield led G-MU with 10 points.

Hancock 65, Unadilla Valley 52
HANCOCK – Evan Whitmore’s big second half allowed Hancock to pull away for the victory in Monday’s game against Unadilla Valley.
Whitmore scored 24 of his 32 points over the final two periods, most of those points coming from short range on inside plays or offensive rebounds. The Storm were within six at halftime, but the Wildcats were able to extend that lead to 14 entering the fourth quarter.
“We had too many turnovers in the third quarter, and we missed some easy ones inside,” said UV coach Matt Osborne. “We should have been able to hang with them.”
Justin Hofer scored 22 points for UV in a losing effort. The Storm host Afton on Wednesday.

OTEGO – Playing for the first time in nearly two weeks, Unatego’s game rust showed – for exactly one quarter.
Stephanie Havens awoke the Spartans’ offense hitting shots from all angles in scoring 20 of her team’s 22 points in the second stanza. Havens’ offensive fireworks helped turn a six-point deficit into a 27-19 halftime lead.
“I think we came out a little too excited and anxious,” said Unatego coach Greg Bonczkowski. “We had some easy opportunities that we missed and made some poor passes that cost us. We settled down, got in the groove, and were able to execute our offense.”
Havens finished with a career-high 27 points to lead the Spartans (2-0). Casey Manzanero connected on a pair of three balls adding 11 points to the Unatego ledger.
The Spartans play at Hancock tonight.

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville won for the first time in five matches this season beating Morrisville-Eaton on Monday night, 28-26, 25-16, 22-25, 25-17.
Ashley Rundell served a team-high eight aces, Karissa Knickerbocker added four kills and six aces, and Megan Matott picked up a team-best eight digs.

NORWICH – Maine-Endwell sneaked out a win over the Tornado winning the last of three games by over 150 pins in Monday’s matchup.
Kevin Rooney’s 581 series led Norwich, who posted its lowest home pin total (2,684) of the season.
