Supervisors take stand on proposed legislation
NORWICH – The Chenango County Board of Supervisors recently voted to oppose or support the following proposed federal and New York State legislation:
• To implore the federal government to take immediate action to help relieve the dairy industry’s fiscal crisis. To provide immediate additional funding payments to farmers from the Milk Income Loss Contract; to fully utilize the Dairy Export Incentive and the Food for Peace programs; to increase the product price levels in the Dairy Product Price Support program; to make immediate dairy product purchase for nutrition programs which received large increases in funding from the federal stimulus package.
• To oppose $25 new license plate fees in New York.
• To support state legislation that would amend County Law 215 as it relates to natural gas leasing opportunities.
• To oppose eleven articles of anti-gun legislation proposed by the New York State Assembly. All but Supervisor Richard Schlag, D-German, voted to amend acts that would provide for the expiration and renewal of certain firearms licenses outside New York City; prevent the sale of firearms, rifles and shotguns to criminals; prevent the sale of child-operated firearms; the possession of armor piercing, frangible or devastator ammunition; compiling firearm and ballistic data; issuing a license to carry a firearm; ban the sale, possession or use of 50-caliber weapons; storage of a weapon and weapons safety programs for children; ban possession, sale or manufacture of assault weapons; require semiautomatic pistols manufactured or delivered to any licensed dealer in the state to be a capable of microstamping ammunition; redefine the term “disguised gun” to include any rifle, pistol, shotgun or machine-gun resembling a toy gun and prohibit the possession, manufacture or dealing thereof.
