S-E, B-G win three titles; UV’s Peet named MOW

ONEONTA – B-G-Afton and Sherburne-Earlville each crowned three champions, and the two local clubs placed third and fifth respectively at the Ross Cordell Oneonta Rotary Tournament this past Saturday.
Brothers Tyi (103) and Spencer Franklin (112) provided a solid one-two punch for the Marauders giving their club two-thirds of the club’s team titles. Tyi won a major decision, 12-2, over Saugerties’ Julian Staiano. Spencer followed that up with a high-scoring 20-15 win over David Dellavecchia of East Islip.
S-E assistant coach, Brian Hicks, said the tournament was conducting two matches at a time, and each Franklin was on center stage at the same time. “It was pretty exciting,” Hicks said. “Tyi got up quick on his kid....Spencer and (Dellavecchia) were rolling all over the place. The East Islip coach said it was his kid’s first loss this season.”
Greg DuVall (135) completed S-E’s triumvirate of title wins beating the Bears’ Justin Cirigliano, 5-3.
Danny Gormley (125) pinned teammate Jesse Griswold in 47 seconds giving B-GA its first finals win. Paul Parsons (145) decisioned S-E’s Dan Cleveland, 7-1, for his championship, and Daren Terpstra (152) dominated Oneonta’s Cory Hunter, 14-0.
Unadilla Valley’s Tyler Peet (140) gave his club its lone championship taking a 10-4 win over East Islip’s Alex Brown. Peet was also named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler.

NORWICH – Norwich rolled its second lowest overall home score of the season, and STAC division leader Windsor swept all five points in Monday’s matchup at Plaza Lanes.
Norwich’s JV team notched a shutout win led by Joey Bazarnik’s season-best 589 series.
