Relay For Life open house tonight
NORWICH – The Relay For Life Kickoff will take place tonight from 5:30 to 7 in the Morrisville State College Norwich Campus community room, and will include an open house and informational meeting.
“We’re inviting the public to come down and check out what Relay For Life is all about,” said Event Chairperson Marie DeSarro. “People are welcome to stop down and ask questions. We’ll also be presenting a slide show, which will give people the opportunity to see all the different things that go on at Relay For Life.”
Activities planned for the open house include team registration, online registration, and information will be provided for this year’s survivor and entertainment activities and health promotion. Both new and current team captains will have the opportunity to pick up their team captain’s packet, according to DeSarro.
“We’re always looking for volunteers to serve on the committee or at the event, new businesses, families and organizations to form new teams, and for any suggestions how to make our event even more successful,” said DeSarro, who added that there will be refreshments and door-prizes at tonight’s open house.
The informational meeting, slated for 6 to 6:30 p.m., will feature the introduction of the 2010 committees, a brief video about Relay For Life and a quick run-down of the Cancer Prevention Study 3 (CPS-3 study), reported DeSarro.
“The CPS-3 study is something we’re very proud to be a part of,” stated DeSarro. “Our Relay has been chosen to conduct a cancer study, and people coming to the open house can learn what the criteria are to participate in this study.”
Relay For Life has set a goal of $150,000 for 2010, said DeSarro, who added that last year’s total take-home was $146,174. The Chenango County Relay For Life will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 10 a.m., July 16 and 17, at the Chenango County Fairgrounds.
