GREENE – Norwich climbed back to the .500 mark sealing Tuesday’s non-league win over Greene by hitting 5-of-6 free throws in the game’s waning moments.
Tornado junior Molly DeMellier scored a career-high 21 points, and was 4-for-4 from the foul line in the last quarter. Bryn Loomis added the other free throw for Norwich (8-8) finishing with nine points.
“We talked before the game about DeMellier being their outside threat, and not leaving her on defense,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “We left her a few times, and she killed us.”
The Trojans’ Andrea Day was DeMellier’s equal at the other end of the floor, and she also finished with a career-high 21 points. Liz Wentlent chipped in with 13 for the Trojans. Gorton was thankful for the opportunity to play a larger school as his team prepares for the postseason.
“Norwich is a good team, and we knew they would be,” the Greene coach said. “That’s why we wanted to play them. This will help us get ready for sectionals. When we fell behind in this game, we battled back and were able to cut their lead down to two points in the fourth quarter.”
Greene hosts Delhi on Friday.
