Local churches to gather for Hymn-Sing Sunday

NORWICH – Valentine’s Day will find many local churches gathering for the first ever, nondenominational Hymn-Sing, to be held at 4 p.m. at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, located on West Main Street.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for area churches to come together and celebrate our common identity and common musical heritage,” said Episcopal Minister Chuck Taylor. “Music is God’s gift to us. It has the ability to connect people emotionally and spiritually the way nothing else can.”

The Hymn-Sing will feature a performance of “Here I Am Lord” by members of participating church choirs, said Choir Director Mary Mayo, who added that members of the community are welcome to join in. Rehearsal for the performance will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Following “Here I Am Lord” will be the Hymn-Sing itself, allowing visitors and guests the opportunity to request favorite hymns, and led by Lutheran organist and Choir Director Jan Burch.
