Police identify Earlville woman in fatal Madison County crash

HAMILTON – New York State police investigators have released the identity of an Earlville woman killed Thursday in the Town of Lebanon after her car wandered across the yellow divide line and into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer.
Police said 34-year-old Stacy L. Sharot of 111 N. Main St., Earlville, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison County Medical Examiner just following the accident which occurred at approximately 8 a.m. Thursday along Route 12B in Madison County.
At the time of the accident, the area was under a winter storm warning and the roads were covered with snow. Police investigators said Monday the weather may have contributed to the accident, but an official cause was still under investigation.
Madison County Fire Coordinator Joe DeFrancisco said the collision caused the section of road to be closed for more than two and a half hours as police reconstructed the accident and crews from the Hamilton Fire Department cleared the wreckage from the scene.
Police said Sharot was traveling south when she crossed into the northbound lane of the 2010 International tractor-trailer. Troopers reported that the truck’s driver, Daniel Case, 51, of Olean, was not injured.
Sharot attended Oxford and Norwich high schools and was working as a licensed practical nurse in Hamilton Hospital’s Extended Care Unit.
She is survived her four children, two step-children and her fiancee.
Funeral services for Stacy will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home of Norwich. A complete obituary appears on today’s Page 6.
