Saturday is Ag Day in Chenango County
NORWICH – National Ag Day falls during National Ag Week, March 14-20, 2010 this year. Ag Day is celebrated on March 20, 2010 – the first day of spring.
A proclamation was presented to Chenango County Farm Bureau President Bradd Vickers by Dick Decker, chairman of the Board of Supervisors declaring March 20 as the official day to recognize the Agricultural Industry in Chenango County. Vickers also received from Assemblyman Clifford Crouch and Assemblyman Pete Lopez a copy of the resolution adopted by the New York State Assembly on March 8 recognizing March 20 as the official National Ag Day. Senator Tom Libous and Jim Seward also requested a similar resolution from the NY State Senate. Vickers said, “We are honored to have these legislative bodies set aside time to recognize - and celebrate - the contribution of agriculture in our everyday lives.”
This year marks the 38th Anniversary of National Ag Day, which occurs every year on the first day of Spring. “That’s over 30 years of recognizing agriculture’s role in American life. Every American should understand how food, fiber and renewable resource products are produced and should value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy, providing safe, abundant and affordable products, a source of renewable energy, and a world of job opportunities,” said Vickers.
