DVD Patrol

Hold on, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol is cleaning things up this week with it being the first week of spring and all. The Guy in Charge, the Toddster, has been busy clearing out the vaults for new movies galore. This week we’ve got some new ones and an old classic of the Toddster’s that he couldn’t resist. What is it you ask? Keep reading. More on that later! Get your brushes going and let’s hit it.

New on DVD

The Blindside - Families come in all sorts of shapes and sizes these days and this one is no exception. Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock brings this touching story to DVD based on a true story. Bullock plays Leigh Anne Tuohy. Leigh Anne is a no nonsense gal living a great life with her football coach husband (Tim Mcgraw) and family. Michael has had a hard life and was living on the streets until he meets Leigh Anne. She welcomes him into her home despite the opinions of her friends and the community. Leigh Anne also encourages Michael to join the football team where he catches on quick. Can Michael turn his life around with the help of Leigh Anne and her family? Despite the turmoil in Bullock’s personal life, Bullock still has some great choices from the Patrol vaults including “All About Steve,” “The Proposal, and “Speed.”

Brothers - It’s always a risky proposition when families have loved ones who go off to war or serve in the military. Especially for Sam Cahill (Tobey Mcguire). Before he leaves, he goes to pick up his brother Tommy (Jake Gyllenhaal) who has just been released from prison. Tommy meets Sam’s wife Grace (Natalie Portman) and their family. While Sam is in Afghanistan, his plane is shot down. After some time has passed, Sam is believed to be dead and Tommy and Grace move on with their lives. Then, they receive news that Sam is still alive and he comes home to find that things have changed. Sam doesn’t react well to all the changes that have taken place. Can Tommy and Grace help Sam deal with the pressure of returning from war? Gyllenhaal is getting ready to star in an all new action movie coming out this aummer from Disney called “The Prince of Persia” coming to theaters.

Also on DVD

The Men Who Stare at Goats - Sticking with the military theme, soldiers sometimes volunteer to do things that would make you think twice. Lyn Cassidy (George Clooney) was a soldier who volunteered for an experimental program that unlocked the powers of the mind. Bob Wilton (Ewan Mcgregor) was a reporter who had heard strange rumors of how the army performed weird experiments on soldiers. Cassidy decides he wants to help Bob explain these stories the right way by going on a road trip and trying to show him what he can do. How will Bob’s story turn out with Cassidy’s help? Clooney also some other great DVDs just released where he is heard in “The Fantastic Mr. Fox” and starred in his Academy Award nominated role in “Up In The Air” in stores now.

Damage - Action Spotlight gets into the ring (sort of). People who make mistakes in life find it hard to get a second chance. John Brickner (Steve Austin) has a second chance to make things right. John took the life of a man and has just been released from prison. Wanting to make up for what he did, John finds out that the daughter of the man he killed needs a heart transplant and that takes a lot of money. The only way he can do that is by entering the world of street fighting where the risk is high but the payoff might be worth it. He doesn’t like to fight but he knows it’s the only way. Can he survive long enough to get what he needs? Another great DVD just out is “Wrong Side of Town” starring Wrestling superstars Rob Van Dam and Dave Batista where they take on street punks looking for revenge. They don’t know who they’re messing with!

Matt Houston - TV Spotlight is here again with an action series that’s an old favorite of the Toddster’s. Lee Horsley stars as Matt Houston. Houston is a rich millionaire who has his hand in just about everything there is but he also has a knack for solving mysteries. Houston has a private investigation business on the side and a case to die for. In the Pilot episode, Houston is called when the daughter of a billionaire is being blamed for his murder. Houston’s only problem is that everyone who knew the man had a motive for wanting him dead. Can the private eye get to the bottom of the case? Season 1 is now on DVD with Season 2 coming soon. Another great series just out is “Scarecrow and Mrs. King” starring Bruce Boxleitner (Babylon 5) and Kate Jackson (Charlie’s Angels) now available in stores.

Before we go, we told you that the Toddster has been pretty busy also catching movies in the theater and this one was pretty good. A really terrific comedy called “She’s Out of My League” has just hit and is a really great date movie. This one was really fun and the stars you’ll see may be around for the first time but were really excellent. Check it out! The Toddster will be back.
