Schools of the Past: Bainbridge District 10 – Scott and District 11 – Bush’s Corners
In the preparation of this article it will be duly documented that even though this is appearing in The Evening Sun on April Fool’s Day the below short article is not intended to be an April Fool’s Joke. The information relevant to the above two districts is non-existent!
The map of the two districts will indicate that these two districts that they were formed and numbered relatively close together as far as times are concerned. It has been written in a previous article that the districts were formed as the population and settlement grew and the need for a one-room school existed.
The district school of #10 which I will term “Scott District” as that name appears close to where the location of the school was located at the intersection of Chenango County Route #38 - Bainbridge-Guilford Road and Searles Hill Road. As I wrote above there is no historical information relevant to the school house being built, teachers, students. If only the enrollment records surfaced they would shed much light on the history of this long gone school. To my present knowledge this school is no longer standing, however there is a residence quite near the above site and perhaps it is the original building much remodeled and changed over the years.
