G-MU 2, Edmeston 1
COPES CORNERS – Coming off a one-run loss the day before where offense was at a premium, G-MU received a dominant outing from junior hurler Andrew Delmar to edge Edmeston in Tuesday’s Tri-Valley League battle.
Delmar had 14 strikeouts in a route-going effort, and allowed just two Edmeston hits. Through two games, the Raiders have surrendered just four runs and six total hits. “This wasn’t expected, but we’ll take it,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson.
Edmeston took a short-lived lead on an RBI sacrifice fly by Derek Rowlins in the fifth.
G-MU answered back in the bottom half of the inning with three of its four hits. Alex Schmidt singled, and Corin Todd doubled. After back-to-back strikeouts, Ian Edwards’ two-run single – his first varsity hit – put the Raiders on top.
“We hit it hard throughout the game, but nothing was finding holes,” Johnson said. “Edmeston made some nice plays in the field.”
G-MU plays at Morris on Friday.

GREENE – Greene put a win on the board for the first time this season scoring seven runs in the third to erase B-G’s early four-run lead.
Scott Gorton and Brian Day had four RBI apiece for the Trojans (1-2), and Jeff Carlin finished with three hits and three runs scored. “Yesterday (against Afton), we had a lot of guys on base, and didn’t get the clutch hits,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “Today, we came through with runners in scoring position, and I know the clutch hitting will come.”
Scott Gorton reeled off three scoreless innings of relief to pick up his first win, and the Trojans’ only errors came in the seventh inning.
Paul Parsons tripled for B-G, and Gordie Shields had a double.

Softball

Greene 8, B-G 0
GREENE – Rebecca Hanrahan tossed her second shutout of the season, and Greene moved its perfect slate to 3-0 with Tuesday’s win over Bainbridge-Guilford.
Hanrahan struck out nine, walked none, and was backed by error-free defense. “Our infielders made a lot of good plays, and they were solid right from the start,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “(B-G) made a lot of contact, but after playing so many games in succession, contact isn’t such a big deal.”
Hanrahan had a two-run triple in Greene’s eight-run fourth inning, and scored on a throwing error at third base. Erin Smith also had a two-run single during the inning. Each player went 3-for-4 at the plate.
Kate Werth single in the fourth for B-G, and Mary Reeve had a one-bagger in the sixth – the Bobcats’ only baserunners of the game. “It was a clean game defensively, and I was hoping we would have an explosion with the bats,” Smith said. “We finally did.”

Courtney Hillman struck out the side in the top of the eighth inning, and picked up the win. “This team is impressing me with our solid defense, and we still haven’t gotten all of the bats going,” said G-MU coach Tina Cole. “In the past, we made a lot of errors. Everyone’s moving to the right spots and knows where to go with the ball.”
Edmeston was able to tie the game in the seventh with a three-run uprising. Brittany Mumbulo had a two-run single, and Cassie Plows drove in the tying run on a fielder’s choice.
